Stop a Child Going Hungry - Mobiles for Meals

A few weeks ago I met the amazing Camila Batmangelidjh at Britmums Live. Camila has a way of speaking, with directness and compassion, that is truly compelling. She shared with me about food poverty. No, we are not talking about children in Africa or Asia without enough food to eat, although that needs adressing too. We are talking about children on our own doorstep, kids in the UK who are going hungry as their parents cannot provide enough food for them. Shocked? I know I was.

For many families, times are extremely difficult. Rent, mortgages, utility bills are all going up, the cost of food is astronomical, benefits are being cut, and for many families this is causing food poverty. Families need our help.

Netmums have joined forces with Orange and T Mobile as well as Kids Company for an ingenius way to raise money to provide meals for hungry British children. You can donate your old unwanted mobile phone and it will be converted into cash to feed children.

Most of us, I am sure, like me, don't have to root far in their drawers to find old phones. Have a clear out, encourage your friends, neighbours, family members and work colleagues to do the same. You can take your phones in to any T Mobile or Orange shop and they will do their magic.

If you visit the Netmums page  their is also a postal facility too if getting into a shop is a bit tricky. Postage is free!

Alternatively if you don't have any old phones knocking about, you can make a text donation. To make an immediate donation of £5 text KIDS MEAL to 70700. A £5 SMS will be billed to your mobile account. (For more information contact 0845 644 6838)

I know Camila was impressed with us bloggers when she met with us at Britmums Live. Due to the visual accuity problems she has as a result of her premature birth, she can't read blogs, but I know how much our support of her and Kids Company means. Lets all help out, and these children, who so desperately need us.

In addition to this, I'd like to add something that Camila and I discussed at Britmums Live. Keep an eye out. Be just a little bit nosey, invite people round for dinner. If you have an abundance of fruit or vegetables, share it. Some people are very shy about approaching charities for help, and charity begins at home, with our neighbours.
